About Melanie:

Melanie Baker is a singer, songwriter and musician hailing from Cumbria and now based in Newcastle-upon-tyne. Her direct and honest lyricism capture themes such as queer identity, self-reflection and the anxieties of modern life.

She has supported the likes of dodie, Tessa Violet, Maisie Peters,  Will Varley, Jen Cloher, Jesca Hoop and runnner.

Her self-released music so far has been supported by BBC Introducing, BBC Radio , BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6Music (Steve Lamacq)

After releasing her brand new EP “Burnout Baby” via DuBlonde’s cult indie label “Daemon TV” Baker has just finished a whirlwind 5-date UK tour with sold out shows. "Amid real, raw pathos, there’s also a sense of lightness to Baker’s newly rocky full-band arrangements. These are songs that may never have existed had Baker not found a way to make music that excited her again, and that gives them a tangible spark."

Reflecting on her songwriting process, Melanie says "I write about what I know and how I feel, if other people can relate to that then sharing those songs feels like an integral part of the process." Melanie’s fearless vulnerability allows her music to cut to the chase of raw and relatable human experiences.

Baker has also led the Curious Youth Music Project for the past two years, a weekly group for LGBTQIA+ young people aged 12-19 who have a passion for music making, playing an instrument, songwriting and more. She has 5+ years experience of facilitating songwriting & music making sessions and workshops.
