We are currently seeking funding to re-launch our Just Write Response Programme. Below is some more information:
Who's it for? Emerging and early career actors aged 18 and over. We are especially interested to hear from people who identify as LGBTQ+, those who have experienced racism or who are from working class backgrounds.
Is it paid? Yes! Each actor will receive a fee of £600.
How does it work?
We are recruiting 7 emerging actors to perform in productions of new 15 minute plays, matching them with emerging directors from the North East region.
Each play will respond to one of the main productions in our programme (listed below) and will have been selected from submissions to our Response Writing competition. (Find out more about the competition here)
Actors will rehearse the play for a week, working with their director in our rehearsal space – they will receive the script at 9.30am on the first day of rehearsals.
Support will be provided by a mentor (Mark Calvert, Paula Penman or Ben Dickenson) to help the director and actors get the show ready for a professional off-book performance.
The play will be performed immediately after the main production for 3 nights (Tuesday to Thursday) during the last week of its run (dates below).
This opportunity is supported by Arts Council England.
How do I get involved?
To be considered for this opportunity we would like you to join a 2 hour workshop with our Just Write Response mentors and workshopping directors. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to express your interest, stating whether morning or afternoon is better for you on that date.
Please tell us why you’re interested in this opportunity, a little about your background, and include a short description of your experience to date – we’re not looking for you to have lots of credits, we just want to know a bit about you.
When is it?

Casting for This Show Is Rubbish by Hazel Monaghan
We are looking for two performers for the World Premiere of This Show Is Rubbish at Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle.
About the play:
This Show Is Rubbish is an hour long two-person actor/musician family musical for approx. 3-8 year olds. It tells the story of Wave, a 10 year old wannabe climate activist who runs away from home to clean up her local beach.
We are looking for two Performers with a North East base and experience in family theatre. Puppetry experience would also be very useful.
ROLE 1 - WAVE
To play Wave, a 10 year-old girl
A strong pop voice (any vocal range)
We are looking to cast North East locals for this role
ROLE 2 - EARTHA, NIGEL and DUCK
To play Eartha, Wave’s slightly intimidating activist mum
To play Nigel, a hapless community support officer
To play Duck, a toy rubber duck
Puppetry experience an advantage
Confident singer (any vocal range)
This role only requires a North East base, not necessarily a North East local
The music for this show will evolve out of the musical talents of the actors we cast. We are looking for two confident vocalists and guitarists, ideally with experience using loop pedals. We’re looking for artists who are up for collaborating and experimenting with alternative musical instruments/trash band-style music making. Any other instruments are welcomed, especially folk and world music instruments such as cajon, djembe, fiddle/violin.
Please apply via Spotlight, or contact us at email@example.com with:
