Be the first to witness the spark of something extraordinary!

Following recent sold-out performances of A Night in Sign, Surface Area Dance Theatre welcomes the return of Fuse Theatre to Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre with their brand-new edition of Lighting the Fuse - where in just five days, a commissioned Deaf artist will create a brand new, bold, BSL-led performance under Fuse Theatre’s guidance.

PRAY FOR ME
Created by Sarah Adedeji
Developed by Fuse Theatre with direction by Harry Jardine and movement direction by Chris Fonseca

A powerful new work-in-progress exploring faith, identity, and belonging through the eyes of a Black Deaf woman.

In Pray For Me, Sarah Adedeji unpacks her lived experience of growing up in the church - where her Deafness was seen as something to be “healed” - and confronts the intersection of heritage, culture and religion with honesty, humour, and heart.

Blending poetry, music, movement, and dance, this bold new piece challenges perceptions of faith and difference, asking: Who decides who needs saving?
